Location :
The fast growing metropolis is the principal city of Assam and one of the major cities in the eastern India. Situated on the bank of Brahmaputra, Guwahati is the gateway of North-East India.Although strictly speaking Guwahati is split in two by the Brahmaputra - only crossed by the Saraighat Bridge and the ferries - "Guwahati" is taken to refer to the main town south of the river, while north Guwahati is virtually a separate town. The main roads out of town are the Assam trunk road, to upper Assam and the Guwahati - Shillong road to Meghalaya .  shares its boundary.

Climate:
The climate of the state is characterized by a warm and humid feeling. As the tropic of cancer runs through the state, the climate is temperate but pleasant. The monsoon brings heavy rains to Guwahati. The average temperature is 31.5°C to 24.7°C in summers and 24.9°C to 12.5°C in winters. 

Site to Visit:
Local: Kamakhya, Navagraha, Umananda and Sukleshwar temple. Vasistha, State Museum, Institute of Historical and Antiquarian studies, Guwahati University.

Excursions: Chandrapur, Chandubi, Hajo and sualkuchi.

How to Reach:

By Air
There are regular flight services to Guwahati from Delhi (2½ hours), Calcutta (1½ hours), Imphal, Agartala, Aizawl, Dibrugarh and Jorhat. Indian Airlines and most private airlines run early morning flights to this northeastern city. The Borjhar airport, 18 km from the main city, is being converted into an international airport.

By Rail
The busy and overcrowded Paltan Bazar railway station is the destination for many trains from every corner of India. There are four trains from/to Delhi, and many others to/from places like Calcutta, New Jalpaiguri, Chennai, Bhubaneshwar, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram. It is also well connected to the other places of the state.

By Road
Behind the station is the bus stand that provides regular bus services to Shillong, Kaziranga, Dimapur, Siliguri, Bomdila, Silchar, etc. The Machkhowa bus stand off MG Road and the Adabari bus stand, 4 km further, are the take-off points for places like Hajo and Sualkuchi.
